International Design Ideas to Get You Inspired

December 24, 2014 By Jennifer

Just because you live in one country, whether it be the United States or England, doesn’t mean that you can’t follow an interior design style of another. These five popular interior design styles can help you create a distinct look for your space. Just choose the international design style that best matches your taste!

Scandinavian

If you love nature and a minimalist design, then the Scandinavian style is for you. To create the look, use neutrals as your room’s primary colors, choose natural materials like wood and sisal, and always design a room with functionality in mind. Following a Scandinavian interior design style will allow you to create a space that is both practical and cozy.

French country

Rustic and charming, the French country interior design style is sure to please. Look for distressed furniture, such as a weathered coffee table, and be sure to add flowers in your decorating scheme. Other elements that make up the French country style include rooster decor; countryside colors such as lavender, green, yellow, blue, bold and red; woven baskets; and course fabrics like burlap.

Japanese

Create a Zen space by following Japanese design principles. The Japanese style is uncluttered and clean, which you can help create by having an open floor plan. A well-lit space is necessary for this interior design style, too. Common colors include brown and green, and materials like bamboo are often used to create a nature-inspired space.

English cottage

Create a calm and quiet interior by following an English cottage interior design style. This style is very down to Earth, welcoming and comfortable; you’ll never see frills or fuss in an English cottage interior. Natural materials for furniture, floors and decor are often used, and white and blue are popular colors in this style.

Mediterranean

If simple and earthy is not your style, try something a little more exotic. The Mediterranean interior design style originated in countries like Spain, Greece and Italy, and it is a much more vibrant and glamorous style than those listed above. Mosaic tiles are popular in Mediterranean design, as are textured walls and burnished bronze.

You don’t have to move to another country to enjoy elements of the lifestyle there. Get inspired with the five interior design styles above and transform your space. Whether you prefer a Zen, vibrant or cozy home, there is a perfect style to match your taste.
