New Interior Design Trends that Will Stick Around for a Long Time

April 14, 2014 By Stephanie

Just like all style trends, interior design trends often come and go fairly quickly. This makes it difficult to incorporate new fads into your home without having to redecorate year after year.  There are some trends, however, that become timeless and will continue to please for years. Here are just five new interior design trends that you’re sure to love, and won’t be going out of style any time soon.

fad from 80's

Remember this fad from the 80’s? Better to tuck it back deep into memory…

1. Bringing natural elements indoors

Nature-inspired homes are soothing and comfortable and can actually make people feel happier in their space. To create the natural look, decorate your space with furniture and accessories made from organic materials like wood, stones, shells or bamboo. You’ll also want to place a variety of plants around your home and use natural colors like browns and greens.

2. Glamorous furniture

If the nature-inspired look isn’t for you, go the opposite route and design a glamorous space instead. Glamour is in now, which means you can decorate your home with metallic accessories, rich materials like velvet or suede, and deeply-saturated colors.

3. Lighter colored woods

Whether you’re creating a nature-inspired home or a glamorous space, lighter-toned wood is a must. Instead of choosing furniture that is often found in traditional styles like mahogany or cherry, opt for lighter finishes which will help your space to look light and fresh.

4. Modern floral patterns

People tend to shy away from floral patterns, thinking they look outdated. But newer flower patterns are bolder and more visually striking, and they look great in contemporary spaces. Look for floral prints in pillows, artwork or even accent chairs to bring the trend inside your home.

5. Mix-and-matched rooms

The eclectic style is continuing to grow in popularity, which is perfect for those who like to break the rules. Don’t be afraid to mix and match colors, styles, textures and even patterns in a room to create a unique look.

With these five interior design trends, you can create a look for your home that you’ll love for years.
