If you’re in the middle of putting together a nursery, then congratulations! Welcoming a new baby into the family is always a joy and cause for celebration. That being said, setting up a nursery isn’t without its challenges. You have to carefully select nursery furniture, paint colors and decorations to provide a comfortable home for your baby. Functionality and efficiency are also elements essential to the room’s design, as the nursery is where you might nurse, change diapers and store baby clothes.
Read on to learn how you can design a comfortable, organized and functional nursery.
Furniture: Do your research before buying
Functional furniture will get the job done, but will it get the job done safely? Not all furniture companies offer the same level of quality, so do your research beforehand by reading reviews and checking for recalls.

Boy’s Nursery Design in Aqua/Brown/Orange colors. White crib and matching changing table blends in with the white wainscoting which separates the brown upper wall.

Storage: Get organized without using up all of your space
With all of the clothes and toys you’ve received from relatives and friends, the nursery is bound to fill up quickly. To prevent the room from becoming crowded, look for storage solutions that won’t take up as much space. For example, consider shelving underneath the crib or a changing table that also has drawers.

I love the calming different hues of greens used for the backdrop behind the crib as well as the pattern. Having the storage drawer near makes it convenient. The white nursery furniture offers a clean palette against the colored wall.

Lighting: Keep it soft
Harsh lighting can be disconcerting to babies. Choose a light bulb that has a lower wattage and install a dimmer switch that you can use to change the lighting instantly.

A popular nursery design is the nautical theme. Using pillows and pictures with boats, anchors, whales, and other sea objects, you can create your own room like above. Add a sailboat mobile for the finishing touch.

Decorations: Think simple and soothing
Nurseries, just like bedrooms, are primarily used for sleeping. Too much distraction and stimulation can make it hard for babies to sleep comfortably. Paint the walls in soft shades of blue, purple, pink, yellow, green or any other color. Bright colors can be used as accents.

A huge giraffe can definitely be a distraction for a nursery room. Let’s keep those away from the baby. : )
