Living in a Lackluster Space? Add Pops of Color in a Room with Accent Decor

February 24, 2014 By Stephanie

If you’re like me, you need your home to have a little color. No, I’m not talking about those neutral tones we use to paint our walls or pick out sofas. I’m talking about bright, rich colors. Colors that make a room pop and capture the eye upon entering a room. People tend to shy away from colors when decorating because they’re afraid the look will be outdated in a couple of years. If that’s the case for you, then accent décor is the perfect solution.

Here are some easy ways to add pops of color in a room using accent décor.

1. Adorn your sofa with a throw blanket and pillows

This is a great solution for people who like to redecorate often because throw blankets and pillows can easily be replaced. So if you want your living room to match the seasons, simply decorate with pastels in the spring and opt for a richer color palette in the fall. Styling your sofa with a throw blanket and pillows is not only a simple way to add color, but it will also provide a more comfortable seat for guests and family members.

2. Add a new accent table or chair to your space

Want to go bold? Then add a pop of color with a fun accent table or chair. A blue (or any other color) end table will instantly liven up your space and give it a more dramatic look. To balance out the look, you may consider incorporating the color elsewhere in the room, like with flowers or even a lamp.

3. Cover your wood floor with a comfy rug

If your hardwood floor is looking a little bare, throw a rug on top to create a cozier environment. A rug will not only warm up the room, but it also gives you a chance to add some much needed color to your space.

4. Hang up a colorful piece of wall art

Sometimes, you simply don’t have room to add any more furniture to your space. If that’s the case, then hang up a colorful piece of artwork instead. The type of art you choose is entirely up to you. Whether you like abstract or prefer pop art, you can be sure the wall art will add a little pizzazz to your space.

You don’t have to paint your walls or remodel your space to incorporate color. With accent décor, you can add the color you crave without drastically changing the room’s appearance.
